Wheaton College provides scholarship awards that cover up to 24 hours of course work if a student needs to take prerequisite courses in Hebrew and/or Greek, significantly reducing the overall costs for those who have not previously studied the biblical languages. Greek 101, 102, 201 and Hebrew 301, 302, 401 do not count toward the completion of the 40-credit-hour degree requirements. A 24-credit-hour prerequisite competency in Hebrew and Greek may also be determined by transcript evaluation or passing competency exams.
Language prerequisite courses are paid for by the student when taken at the beginning of the program. The scholarship then covers the tuition for the remaining required courses in the degree program after the student has paid for 42 credit hours.
For example, if a student takes 12 hours of Hebrew for credit, then the final 12 hours of degree requirements are covered on scholarship. And, if a student takes 24 hours (both Greek and Hebrew) then his or her final 24 hours of required courses are covered by the scholarship.
The Registrar will send the scholarship amount to Financial Aid and Student Accounts at the end of the second week of the semester that the student surpasses 42 credit hours, when the add/drop period has ended. Although the student will receive a bill at the beginning of the new semester, the scholarship will be placed in the student's account afterward. The Registrar waits until all changes in registration take place before sending the figures to Financial Aid and Student Accounts. Any late fees from the time prior to when the scholarship is disbursed will be reversed.
