Men’s Church Hats

In Western culture, it is considered rude for men to wear hats indoors, including in a church building. Even a generation ago, men took off their hats when they were indoors or in the presence of a woman. By contrast, women’s hats have long been a standard part of a fashion or formal outfit, and it’s acceptable for women to wear hats indoors. Hats have been worn in churches for centuries and are still not considered disrespectful. Importantly, it is a tradition for men (except uniformed members of the military) to remove their hats when entering a building or saluting the flag in Western culture. During a church service, take off one’s hat to show respect to god. Similarly, you should take off your shoes when entering a home or place of worship is an act of respect in Eastern cultures. Taking off one’s hat in church is just a cultural way for men to show their respect and honor to God.

With advancement of hat-making technology, and the diversification of fabrics and materials, men are choosing church hats as much as they have ever been, such as fedoras, flat hats and boaters. Although church dress habits have changed that men are no longer required to wear hats on Sundays, many of them still choose to wear a hat with their suit. The dressy men’s church hat was definitely an important part of the outfit, adding a little extra point to the overall look. Today, men’s church hats are not as popular as they were in their heyday, but they are still a lovely piece of tradition that many people still wear them every weekend. Just like similar styles of hats for Easter and even for weddings.

Although the church hat is popular, you can wear any size hat as long as it doesn’t cover your head and face. In the past, people would go to a church and display all their finest possessions. Top hats served for formal occasions. If your hat has a large brim, you may want to take it off indoors. It could block the view of the people sitting behind you. A hat with a medium or small brim, such as a top hat, a cloche hat or a bonnet can be worn when you go to the church. But men should take them off inside the church.

Fedoras look stylish with suits or slacks and button-down shirts. Try changing your slouchy hat for a more structured style. While berets can be worn in church, fedoras are much more debonair. Other hats for men include safari hats, Panama hats and sailor hats. A classic preppy outfit might have an ivy cap. If you want to wear a bucket hat, make sure that it’s made of sturdy material.

A church hat should be more structured than the hat you wear every day. If you want to know how to match a hat, stick to one or two colors on your clothes when you want to pair them with a larger hat. If this is the first time you’ve bought a black or white church hat, which will make you feel less timid.
